The single thing we did best was recognizing our own over-ambition. Mid-project we admitted the 3-D scope was impossible for the deadline, talked it through, and pivoted to a 2-D build. That move let us hit the final-project deadline, and the proof is the game actually looks like a gameāas you played in the link above. A quick glance at our original 3-D repo versus the new 2-D repo shows just how fast we adapted.
If we had two more weeks? First, we'd deepen the horror by adding environmental storytelling - scattered notes hinting at the kidnapper's backstory in those empty rooms. Second, we'd make the dog companion more useful - having him whine when danger's near or nudge players toward hidden keys. Finally, we'd polish those janky moments when the kidnapper just walks through furniture. Basically, we'd want to transform those tense escapes into something truly haunting. Additionally, we wouldn't have needed to pivot from our original idea of making the game 3d.
